Recommendations for selection of stands for hydraulic testing of large volumes

We recommend that you pay attention to the following points when hydrotesting large tanks:

• It is recommended to fill large volumes of tanks from auxiliary lines or low pressure systems bypassing the bench or through the bench discharge line before the high pressure pump starts. It is not advisable to overload the high pressure pumps by filling the tanks. This will reduce pump life at a sufficiently low filling efficiency.
• In the process of hydraulic loading, the high pressure pump supplies liquid to the tank, which leads to liquid compression . Based on the compressibility of liquids, the pump power is selected. Pump models are described as "Pre-Filled Product Compression Rates" for each model. The parameter is calculated based on the modulus of elasticity of water E = 2 × 10 ⁹ Pa. This parameter is useful for quickly calculating the release time to the required discharge pressure during static testing of large vessels.
• Air plugs in the filled container have high compressibility, which significantly increases the time to reach the test pressure, the energy of the compressed medium, risks and damage when the product is destroyed during the test. During tightness tests with pressure drop control, air plugs will significantly reduce the pressure drop rate, acting as a gas accumulator. To improve the reliability of pressure drop leakage measurements, the volume of gas plugs must be minimized.
• Note that the liquid has very low compressibility, so it requires a capacity of about 100 times lower than the capacity when filling the tank to pressurize the filled tank with a minimum volume of air plugs. The use of high-performance electric pumps in static testing of products increases risks and possible damage to the destruction of the product, reduces usability.
• It is recommended to connect the pressure vessel to the bench using rigid stainless steel pipes. Installation of several corners, elbows allows for high flexibility and ease of connection of rigid high-pressure pipes. Connection by means of high and ultra-high pressure hoses (HPR/HPLC) increases risks and possible damage during hose break, reduces measurement accuracy due to volume expansion of the hose.

Example description of the Special Tank Test Bench:

Hydraulic tests of special vessels of 350 litres or more include:

• Pressure drop leak check at about 95 bar;
• Pressure control 150 bar and above;
• cyclic tests in the amount of 50-100 cycles with loading, holding for 10-20 seconds and depressurization.
• Cyclic impact tests with a specified loading rate.

To ensure the required loading modes, a combined test bench has been developed for individual customer specifications.

Stand includes:

• first stage pump (0-95 bar). Thanks to its high performance, the pump allows you to create a shock load;
• High pressure pump. Provides loading of the article with pressure from 95 to 300 bar or more at strength control;
• valves, sensors and pressure regulators;
• filter tank.

The stand is a semi-open frame on which all the main units are installed, the controls are placed on the dashboard.

The tests are manually controlled. The operator controls the pressure and controls the pressure in the product using pressure gauges.

The test object is installed in the customer's armor chamber and connected to the bench using pipelines. This ensures operator safety during testing.
